Per Crappie USA Release
Lake Eufaula played host to the Crappie USA Event this past Saturday, February 25, 2017. Over 50 anglers from several different states were competing for not only the $6,100.00 in cash and prizes, but a chance to advance to the prestigious Cabela’s Crappie USA Classic. This year's classic will be held October 26 – 28, 2017on Kentucky & Barkley Lakes at Paris, Tennessee.
Pro Division Results
Early morning storms and gusty winds at 15 – 25 mph all day couldn't stop Forrest Walker of Byron, Georgia and Jake Rawls of Lexington, Georgia from taking first place in the Pro Division with a total weight of 11.44 pounds and earning $1,400.00. The team used yellow/white jigs, shooting docks in 12 feet of water on the south end of Lake Eufaula to land over 75 fish for event. The team stated the fish were suspended under the docks and the high winds made for a tough day of fishing.
William Stewart and Justin Churchwell, both of Cochran, Georgia took second place with a total weight of 9.96 pounds and earned $600.00, plus an additional $250.00 Ranger Cup Bonus. The team fished the north end of Lake Eufaula, long line trolling jigs in 12 – 15 feet of water using several colors of jigs, and catching fish on blue combinations. The Cochran, Georgia team had 34 fish for the day and also won the Ranger Cup Bonus.
In third place were Blake and Teresa Phillips of Dothan, Alabama weighing in at 9.22 and earning $300.00. The team fished south of Thomas Mill in 2 – 12 feet of water using minnows out the back of the boat, and out of the front of the boat used chartreuse jigs to land over two limits of fish for the tournament.
Amateur Division Results
Frank Jackson and James Stewart took first place in the Amateur Division with a total weight of 8.87 pounds and earned $800.00. The Warner Robins, Georgia team long line trolled the mouth of the bay just in front of Lake Point State Park marina, targeting their fish on a sand bar in 14 – 24 feet of water to land over 15 fish on chartreuse jigs.
In second place were Clint Shipman and Brian Davidson, both of Byron, Georgia with a total weight of 8.65 pounds and earning $400.00. The team targeted deep water docks on the south end of Lake Eufaula, shooting Sugar Bug jigs to catch over 100 fish for the event.
Taking third place were Blake Bennett of Kathleen, Georgia and Bruce Bennett of Macon, Georgia weighing in at 7.47 pounds and earning $300.00, plus an additional $160.00 second place Big Fish. The team long line trolled on the south end f Lake Eufaula in 25 – 35 feet of water using 2 jigs of assorted colors per line to catch between 15 to 20 fish for the day. Team Bennett also had second place Big Fish of the event.
Jason Biddle of Enterprise, Alabama and Andy Cron of Chandler, Alabama took fourth place of the tournament with a total weight of 7.22 pounds and earned $380.00 for Big Fish of the day. The team fished White Oak Creek in shallow water using live bait to land 10 – 15 fish for the day, including the Big Fish of the tournament, a 2.29 pound slab.
Ranger Cup bonus in the Amateur Divisionn went to Eric and Gracie Fenstemaker of Maryville, Tennessee.
