All across the state of Alabama, local career center offices strive to help unemployed citizens get back on their feet and working.
The Eufaula Career Center, located on Paul Lee Parkway, is no different.
Alabama’s network of One-Stop Centers and satellites are strategically located throughout the state. Job development, occupational and educational training, vocational rehabilitation, veterans’ services and unemployment insurance information are offered.
The Eufaula office is headed by Linda Williams, a longtime employee in the state system. After beginning her career working in the unemployment wing of the state workforce division, she now helps put Barbour County residents on the path to success with a job they can take pride in.
“I was brought up with the thought of if you want something, you have to work for it,” said Williams. “I like my job. I like helping people. My motivation is that I get to come in every morning and help somebody. I’m here to help.”
Employers work with local centers to locate employees with specific skills, and the goal is to consolidate the delivery of services at a single location. Many centers are electronically linked with partner agencies, such as the Alabama Department of Commerce, Human Resources, Rehabilitation Services, and Education, two-year colleges, and others.
When a potential employee first arrives at the local career center, Williams and staff work with them to ensure that are registered in the state database. They will then search the job listings to match a potential employer to the client.
If the individual needs help in procuring employment, the Career Center holds monthly “Job Shops.” The job shops help potential employees build resumes and interview skills.
The Career Center also works closely with local companies to meet their employment needs.
“Local employers can post a job order with us, and will we send it out via Alabama Joblink,” Williams said. “We can also screen applicants on behalf of the employer and open our facility for interviews if they need. We will do whatever we can do to assist them in finding the people and workers they need.”
