Eufaula Family Chiropractic has been helping folks beat pain for nearly 60 years.
Dr. Scott Gillis began his working career in the financial industry but made the decision to change careers after seeing the benefits of chiropractic care throughout his life.
“I have been seeing a chiropractor personally for most of my life,” said Gillis. “I had a good friend growing up who became a chiropractor, and always talked to him about becoming one myself. My mother was in a bad car accident when I was younger, and I saw how it benefited her. I wanted to help.”
Chiropractors are primarily concerned with locating and treating vertebral subluxations.
A vertebral subluxation is a complex of functional and/or structural and/or pathological articular (joint) changes that compromise neural integrity and may influence organ system function and general health.
Using a number of unique and highly refined skills, the chiropractor checks the patient's spine for any misalignments, fixations or other abnormalities. If subluxations or other abnormalities are detected, the chiropractor will generally apply a gentle force in a corrective manner to the affected spinal area.
Gillis said many patients like chiropractic visits due to no medicine being required.
“We differ from traditional medicine in the fact we are drug free,” said Gillis. “A lot of people are scared of medicines, especially narcotic pain medicines. We are noninvasive and very safe. Many people look for non-narcotic ways to deal with their pain, and chiropractors fit right in that area. We work with patients’ medical doctors to provide the best care possible. If we are all working on the same team towards the same goal, we will get the best results.”
Patients can normally receive treatment on the very first to the office.
After brief paperwork and consultation, the patient undergoes a medical history, examination and x-rays to allow Gillis to get a better idea at what the issues are.
Following the x-rays, Gillis can make the appropriate chiropractic adjustments.
Those three things (history, exam and x-rays) give us a pretty good understanding of why they are hurting,” said Gillis. “Once you know why they are hurting, it is easier to come up with a game plan to fix why they are hurting.”
