Local Business Spotlight: Medical Center Barbour
A cornerstone of the community for more than five decades, Medical Center Barbour takes pride in taking care of Eufaula.
The medical facility is licensed for 74 beds and can treat most acute care illnesses.
Stephanie Cox, Director of Marketing for MCB, says the facility and staff work hard in a variety of arears to ensure the best quality care for local citizens.
“We have been here serving the community for more than 50 years,” Cox said. “We are an acute care facility, with services ranging from radiology, cardio/pulmonary, emergency services and more. We also have a Senior Care Center that is for geriatric patients, ages 55 and older.”
After several years of partnership with Southeast Alabama Medical Center, MCB welcomed in a new management partner in the latter part of 2017.
Since 1978, Alliant Management Services (AMS) has performed at the forefront of community healthcare, sharing affordable, innovative support systems in virtually all areas of hospital management.
“On December 1, 2017, Alliant Management Services took over the management side Medical Center Barbour in a partnership with the Eufaula Healthcare Authority,” said Cox. “None of the services will change, and there will actually, probably, be an increase in what we offer. The latest, greatest thing at the top of Alliant’s list is to add a Wound Care facility. The facility will add some hyperbaric chambers and other machines on site to assist patients.”
Outside of providing services in the hospital facility, MCB helps the community in other ways
Cox said one of larger initiatives the hospital works in is to hold health fairs at local businesses as a way to keep citizens informed.
“We always try to be a part of the community,” said Cox. “We love to go to businesses and do health fairs for employees and staff. In the past, we have visited Humminbird. WestRock, American Buildings, Keystone and more. We take our physicians, nurses and staff out to the industry or business and talk with people about different health-related topics.”
Prior to working at Medical Center Barbour, Cox was like many in the area: a regular working parent of active children. From personal experiences she saw the value of having Medical Center Barbour as a part of the community and sees even more as the days move forward.
“I can’t speak for everyone, but personally, as a patient and parent, having this facility here keeps you from having to go out of town,” Cox said. “We can perform procedures here just as well, if not better, than Dothan, Columbus, Montgomery. We are proud of being a part of this community. Our staff here is fantastic. From the physicians and nurses to our volunteers – The Pink Ladies – everyone is here to help and make sure your time at Medical Center Barbour is as enjoyable as possible”
