Local Business Spotlight: Name Frames & More

Although he grew up in the Columbus area, and spent nearly two decades in Carson City, Nevada; Gary Norton proudly calls Eufaula his home.

Norton worked numerous stints at American Buildings Company, including being one of the members of the original labor force in 1967. Now retired, Norton and family operate Name Frames and More on Pine Avenue in Eufaula.

The family-owned shop – which was the brainchild of Norton’s daughter – specializes in custom engraving and framework for personal and business awards.

“After we were in a business a little while, I purchased a laser engraver and started doing corporate plaques and awards. We have done annual awards and special recognition awards for a few companies, including American Buildings.”

In addition to plaques for businesses, specialty gifts are available…with a personal touch.

“Our original thing was doing name frames,” Norton said. “That’s where the name of the business comes from. A name frame is a group of pictures of shapes that represent a letter. You can use the letters to spell out last names, businesses or any phrase you want. We also do custom engraving on stainless steel “Yeti” cups. Everything is a little different, which makes it unique.”

The walls and shelves of Norton’s shop are lined with examples of his work. Trophies, frames, word carvings are plentiful, but when asked what his favorite and most-challenging item is, Norton pointed to one specific piece.

“Doing a shadow box is challenging,” said Norton. “There are a lot of openings in the wood and several custom-made pieces that go in one. It is a time-consuming project, but one I always enjoy.”
